Clearing the Way for Sun

A 600-square-foot interior renovation in Washington, DC’s Brightwood neighborhood, the Roth Residence focused on bringing natural light and graceful flow to a once-fragmented main floor. By reworking ductwork, removing obstructive walls, and enlarging a key south-facing window, the design allows sunlight and air to move freely throughout the space. Guided by the homeowner’s sensitivity to acoustics, love of nature, and desire for functionality over excess, the result is a serene, cohesive home that proves small spaces can shine with the right light.
